Technical Overview

Iotics’ operating environment revolves around three key concepts:

The Digital Twin
The Event Stream
Event Analytics

The Digital Twin is the virtual version of any real-world entity.
The twin is the focus at the centre of the ecosystem. Events and data are sent to the twin by “Integrators” from systems of record, the IoT, public data sources, etc. The twin then forwards to a series of “Followers” who choose what to do with that data – store it , present to an application, or process it and send it back. There is access control between the integrators and the twin and between the twins and their followers, so that data can be selectively shared.

The Event Stream is the historical record of meaningful events in a twin’s life.
The events are stored in an immutable database and are available for any allowed follower to replay from a point in time – the Event Sourcing technique. Events and data from the twins is a useful resource for any application to analyse.

Event Analytics starts with Followers receiving data from the twins and selectively caching data that is useful.

The cache updates when new events flow from the twin. The follower analyses the event and data, contextualises them with other sources and provides feeds for other twins in the ecosystem. This “Synthesis” enriches and contextualises the other data from twins and allows the ecosystem to grow organically, flexibly and securely.
